Google’s two-year-old Nexus 4 wasn't provided with an Android L Developer Preview like the Nexus 5 or the latest Nexus 7, but that doesn't mean it won’t be upgraded this fall. Google employees are testing official Android L builds on the Nexus 4, and that’s a good sign it won’t be forgotten when Google’s next major release goes public.
Android Police points to a thread on the Chromium.org issues board which includes posts from multiple Google employees who are testing Android L on the Nexus 4. 
The Android L build mentioned in these posts is labeled “LRW52G.” In comparison, the Nexus 5′s Developer Preview has the “LRW66E” build number. But does this thread give Nexus 4 users false hope?
Just because Google employees are testing official Android L builds, that doesn’t mean the public will get one when the update rolls out in the coming months. If the search giant decides that the aging device cannot offer an optimal experience with this software, there is a good chance it will forever be stuck with Android 4.4.4 KitKat (at least officially).
But having said that, the Nexus 4′s quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM should be more than capable of running Android L smoothly — and although these threads are far from a guarantee of things to come, they are certainly a promising sign for owners hoping that they won’t be forgotten by Google this fall.
