Android Distribution Updated for April 2016: Marshmallow To Reach 5%

The latest Android Platform Distribution numbers are in and we’re seeing a big jump in Marshmallow devices for the month of April. Android 6.0 Marshmallow has perfectly doubled its share of the Android pie, now accounting for 4.6% of active devices. Last month, Marshmallow was only at 2.3% and although it was a modest number, also doubled the month the previous month of February as well. We’re seeing a drop in Lollipop (showing us where a few of those new Marshmallow activations came from) down to 35.8% but still holding the biggest slice.

With popular Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 only recently seeing updates to Marshmallow, we expect that number to get another big jump next month. Even still, 4.6% of Android devices isn’t a very big number especially considering it’s been almost a full 6 months since Marshmallow was released. Comparing to the same time last year, Lollipop was already at 5.4%. Any of you guys out there still waiting for Marshmallow to hit your device?
