HTC Nexus "Sailfish" Specs Revealed In New Leak

HTC is widely believed to be manufacturing this year’s Nexus devices. A number of leaks point to 5- and 5.5-inch devices codenamed Sailfish and Marlin, respectively. Today, a new rumor details the smaller device with specs that would make for a decent upgrade to the Nexus 5X.

Assuming Google sticks to a dual-device lineup this year, Sailfish is likely a successor to the Nexus 5X. With a 5-inch 1080p display, the device has a slightly smaller display than last year’s model. It is said to be powered by an unknown quad-core 2GHz 64-bit processor and 4GB of RAM. The report also says the device will have 32GB of storage, though there might be other storage configurations, as well.

The 2770mAh battery is only slightly larger than the current 5X, while the rear camera will be the same 12MP setup. The front camera, however, does get an upgrade to an 8MP sensor. Interestingly, this year’s Nexus will retain the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, despite the fact that HTC is known for placing a fingerprint sensor underneath the display leading to a large chin. There is a bottom-firing speaker and USB-C port at the bottom with a top mounted headphone jack.

The rumor provides no details on the appearance of the device, nor contains any specs about the larger device. Most of the specs are not surprising and what we would expect from a device coming out later this year. However folks at Android Police says that they are confident with their sources and the leak is possibly true. With the Developer Preview winding down in time for a summer release of Android N, it’s possible that this year’s Nexus devices will be released sooner rather than later.
