According to a Google engineer, the update fixes the CVE-2014-0224 bug — an OpenSSL bug that allows for a MITM attack. The update will be rolled out in batches over the next couple of weeks to all the Nexus and presumably Google play edition devices. The files are now available on Google’s website for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012, 2013 Wifi-only models) and Nexus 10. The files carry build number of KTU84P. As far as what’s new, the update appears to be a fix solely pertaining to security issues.
Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 owners are also reporting a new radio is included with the update, which can lead to better mobile data and network performance.
We’ll continue digging through the update and see what we can find. Let us know in the comments or on Twitter if you find any changes. You can download the images on Google’s website now and flash them yourself. If you’re more patient, OTAs will presumably roll out soon.
