OnePlus 7 And 7 Pro Will Have Crazy Fast UFS 3.0 Storage

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau today confirmed that the company’s upcoming flagship — the OnePlus 7 series — will make use of UFS 3.0 NAND. This means that the phones will offer notably faster I/O performance than other flagships in the market.

This will also make the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro the first smartphones in the market to launch with UFS 3.0 NAND. The Galaxy Fold was the first smartphone announced by Samsung with UFS 3.0, though due to screen reliability issues, the release date of the device was pushed back.

What is UFS 3.0 storage? It’s the embedded internal storage you find in phones, with 3.0 acting as the newest, fanciest version. With UFS 3.0, we’re getting twice the speed of the previous top-tier UFS 2.1 storage, at least according to Samsung. That means doing just about anything on your phone at a faster pace.

The 2100MB/s read speeds on UFS 3.0 are 20x a typical microSD card and 4x a SATA SSD drive. It’s write speeds are up to 410MB/s, which is a 50% boost over the previous UFS solutions.

The benefits to you will be faster load-up times for applications and multi-tasking, a quicker and more powerful camera experience, improved gaming and video experiences, etc. Again, everything should just happen faster with UFS 3.0.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is definitely shaping up to be an impressive smartphone. Apart from UFS 3.0 NAND, it will also come with a 90Hz AMOLED display, a pop-up selfie camera, triple rear cameras, and WarpCharge 30. The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro will be announced on May 14.
